It’s time to wake up

EDITOR:

The problem with America and the world is the selfishness and greed of man and the fact that men cannot solve the problems of the world. The biggest part of the paper is the sports section which shows that men are more concerned about playing child’s games than solving the problems of the world.

Men without God are like the beasts that perish and they do abominable things to other human beings. People complain about the government but the people are the ones who are the problem. Men should love their wives and take care of their children. People shouldn’t spend money that they don’t have and should live according to the money they make.

People lie, cheat, steal and lust and then judge others who are doing the same things. People believe in the lie of evolution and then reject the Bible and the testimony of those who know the living God and testify of His grace, power and mercy.

It is time for America to wake up and return to God. Our ancestors came to America for religious freedom and now we deny others the same right. The things that are so easily accepted today were not allowed when our country was doing well. Years ago people went to church and served the Lord and we saw none of the horrible things that we see today.

We send our young people to war in other nations and they haven’t even experienced life. They are dying on the battlefield of countries that hate us and our way of living. We didn’t learn from Vietnam and now the same thing is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan. We can never win these wars and those who are for them know this. We should bring all of our soldiers home and have them secure our own borders. We should stop meddling with other countries and let their own people decide what they want to do.

We should stop this ridiculous space program and take the billions of dollars we waste on this useless program and put it into our country. We should rid our cities of crime and bring all the criminals to justice. We should teach our children to do what is right and not to admire what is evil. All of this and more could be done if we would use our money to help and to heal instead of to wound and kill.

We can’t make it all

EDITOR:

While correctly addressing common economic fallacies regarding national debt, the writer of a Nov. 23 letter fell victim to an economic clich himself. He claimed that the productive capacity of our nation has gone to China and by implication suggests that this is a bad thing, or that we are less prosperous as a result. This is incorrect.

He should familiarize himself with Ricardo’s Law of Comparative Advantage to learn that the division of labor, whether domestic or global, increases the productive capacity of both parties in the exchange process, and thereby the wealth of each.

Further, the United States would be measurably poorer if we had to manufacture all the goods we import from China. I would venture to estimate that at least a third of the goods and services we take for granted here wouldn’t exist if our capital were tied up making the labor intensive products that we buy cheaper from China.
