Allegiant Air to switch Orlando airports

VIENNA — Allegiant Air will take passengers from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport to Orlando International Airport in Florida instead of Orlando-Sanford International Airport starting March 4.

Allegiant said the move brings its passengers closer to prominent tourist attractions in Orlando, such as Walt Disney World. After the change, the flights to Orlando will operate twice a week — on Thursdays and Sundays. They will depart the local airport at 7:30 p.m., arriving in Orlando at 9:50 p.m., and depart Orlando at 4:25 p.m., arriving at the Vienna airport at 6:45 p.m.

The airline said fares will be as low as $59.99 when tickets are bought at the local ticket counter, which is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Rate change for Dominion East Ohio customers

CLEVELAND — Dominion East Ohio said customers who buy their natural gas from the utility will pay $5.89 per thousand cubic feet, starting Dec. 16. The new Standard Choice Offer is an increase of 20 cents, or 4 percent, from the current amount. The rate affects only those customers who don’t buy gas from another supplier or who aren’t part of a government aggregation group.

This month’s rate is 36 percent lower than the $9.22 that was charged in December 2008. Dominion said market prices have fallen because the recession has lowered industrial demand and led to high storage levels.

Home Savings and Loan to sell branch in Findlay

YOUNGSTOWN — Home Savings and Loan Co. has agreed to sell its branch in Findlay, Ohio, to the Union Bank Co.

Patrick Bevack, Home Savings president, said Findlay is a non-core market for the company, and the sale will allow Home Savings to sharpen its focus on its core markets. Home Savings also will record a financial gain, but terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The transaction has been approved by the boards of both companies. It is expected to close in the first quarter of 2010. Union Bank, which is based in Columbus Grove, Ohio, would assume all of the deposits and $2 million in loans associated with the Findley branch.

Delphi Packard retirees to testify on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON — Two local Delphi Packard Electric retirees, Bruce Gump and Chuck Cunningham, are among those scheduled to testify on Capitol Hill today before the House subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions.

They are members of the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association, which is trying to show that Delphi’s pension plans were improperly terminated and accepted by the federal Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp. Because of the takeover, Delphi’s salaried retirees are facing pension cuts of between 30 percent and 70 percent.
