YOUNGSTOWN — The brother of a local boxing celebrity is scheduled for arraignment today in municipal court on charges of felony domestic violence and abduction.

Michael Pavlik, the older brother of middleweight boxing champ Kelly Pavlik, surrendered to police early Tuesday. The charges are related to a Friday incident with a female acquaintance.

Often cited as a member of Team Pavlik, Michael, 33, has worked as cornerman, team coordinator and media handler for his brother’s boxing enterprise.

According to a police report, Pavlik and a 33-year-old woman became involved in a physical altercation at a Cornell Street home on the South Side just before midnight. The woman told police Pavlik punched her in the eye, threw her into a coffee table and dragged her across the floor.

The woman told police Pavlik had been drinking heavily throughout the day.

The police reports lists the woman as 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 100 pounds. Pavlik is listed on the report as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds.

The woman told officers she was too afraid to call them the night of the incident and chose instead to go to sleep. She told officers the fighting and physical abuse continued Saturday morning when she awoke.

According to the woman’s statement, Pavlik became angry because she refused to attend a party with him while her eye was still bruised from the physical altercation she had with Pavlik the night before.

She said Pavlik then punched her in the nose, punched her in the head and slammed her into a wall.

She said Pavlik threatened to kill her and himself if she called police. According to the woman’s statement, he said no one would believe he beat her if she told what happened, and everyone would just think she is “clumsy.”

The woman said Pavlik’s two children witnessed the attack.

She went to the Youngstown Police Department and was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where six pictures were taken of her injuries.

Police officers noted the woman did have a black-and-blue right eye, a swollen face, swollen lips, swollen nose and multiple bruises on both legs.

The woman signed the appropriate papers to press charges against Pavlik and also was directed to the police department’s Crisis Intervention Unit for assistance. She told police she would be staying out of town for the immediate future.
