YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating multiple armed robberies in the city over the last several days.
Three armed men wearing masks entered the A&N Market on Taft Street shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday. The thieves grabbed armfuls of cigarettes and various brands of cigars along with an undetermined amount of cash before running out of the store.
Police report that the three men ran to a waiting blue Buick and fled north on Taft.
A 50-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint outside her Canfield Road apartment just after 8:30 p.m. Friday.
She came home, got out of her car and was met by a man who pulled out a long black gun and told her not to scream or he would use the weapon. The woman told police the thief made her turn her back, then he took her purse and cell phone.
The woman told officers she waited several minutes before she moved or turned around, and when she finally looked, the man was gone.
A short time after the woman was robbed near her home, another man attempted to rob a convenience store using a knife.
According to police, the man, wearing a hoodie and a mask over his face, walked into the Lucky 7 Store on Midlothian Boulevard, pulled out a knife, leaned over the counter and demanded cash. The store clerk told police she told the man she could not open the cash drawer and the man left.
Police have reviewed surveillance tapes of the robbery and are looking for the thief.
Police also are looking for a woman who robbed a man at gunpoint at a South Side traffic light Sunday.
The man told police he was driving down Market Street at the intersection with Myrtle Avenue at 4 a.m. when a female opened the passenger side door of his car, said “what’s up” then pointed a gun at him and demanded he drive to a side street. The man said the woman ransacked his car looking for valuables.
The woman, reports said, took the man’s wallet containing $120 and driver’s license, then made him drive her to a house on Myrtle Avenue.
The man drove to the police station to report the robbery.
