Nine arrested, face charges in drug raid
STAFF REPORT
WARREN — Bail bonds were set Monday at between $25,000 and $100,000 for nine people arrested Wednesday on drug trafficking charges related to the massive drug raid conducted in the city.
Many had come up with bail money by Monday afternoon and were being released from the Trumbull County jail, a jail official said.
Generally, an inmate must post about 10 percent of the bond amount with a bonding company to be released.
Police arrested 16 people in all, some on arrest warrants and on lesser crimes such as drug possession.
All nine charged with drug trafficking, however, spent Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday weekend in the jail awaiting their arraignment Monday.
All nine, including five originally from the Detroit area, pleaded innocent Monday in Warren Municipal Court to the fourth-degree felony punishable by up to 18 months in prison.
One of the five, Derrick D. Peete, 19, originally from Detroit but arrested at an apartment on Elm Road near Harding High School, was charged with a first-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Most of the defendants are due back in court at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.
Twelve government/police agencies, consisting of 112 law enforcement officers, descended on the city, executing search warrants on four suspected drug houses and questioning many other residents throughout the day, especially in the southwest area of the city.
