Warren shooting probed

WARREN — Police are investigating a shooting in the city that has left two people wounded.

The shooting took place just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hampshire House Apartments on Fifth Street S.W., police said. Police did not have a condition on the two men as of Sunday night but said the gunshot wounds are not life-threatening.

Police did not release names or ages for the two wounded men but said one man ran to a nearby home after being shot and was taken from there to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The second man was taken directly to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

The men told police they were playing basketball when shots were fired, but they did not see the shooter.

Electric to be shut off

STRUTHERS — City officials said that at noon today, electrical power temporarily will be shut off for the purpose of the Fifth Street culvert project.

Electric will be off at Fifth Street and West Spring Street and south of Spring Street and west of Fifth to Youngstown-Poland Road, according to a press release by Edward H. Wildes, safety-service director.

The electric will be turned back on at 3 p.m., Wildes said.

Stuff the Bus campaign

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley reminds residents the organization’s Give to Stuff the Bus campaign continues through today to help the underprivileged children in the Mahoning Valley start the school year off on a positive note.

The United Way is collecting book bags, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, pencil cases, crayons, pens and pencils, highlighters, erasers, rulers, pocket folders, glue sticks and book covers.

Donations can be dropped off at any of these collection sites: the Boardman YMCA on McClurg Road; Christopher & Banks and C.J. Banks in Southern Park Mall in Boardman; Knoll Run Golf Course in Coitsville; the Jewish Community Center, Gypsy Lane, and the United Way office, 255 Watt St., both in Youngstown.

Band show tonight

AUSTINTOWN — Austintown Fitch Band Night will be at 7 tonight at Falcon Stadium, featuring Austintown, Beaver, Canfield, Jackson-Milton, Lisbon, McDonald, Ursuline and Youngstown State University bands.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Senior citizens and children get in free.
