Rained-out twinbill keeps Scrappers’ magic number at 3

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Sunday’s Scrappers-Jamestown Jammers doubleheader was rained out, meaning there will be extra baseball played in Niles.

Saturday’s New York-Penn League game at Diethrick Park also was rained out, prompting Sunday’s twinbill.

Those games will be made up as part of doubleheaders on Wednesday and Thursday at Eastwood Field. Two seven-inning games will be played each night.

Games on both days will begin at 6:05 p.m., with the ballpark gates opening at 5 p.m.

By then, the Scrappers could have a postseason berth wrapped up. With nine games to play, the Scrappers have a seven-game lead over the second-place Williamsport CrossCutters.

Tonight, the Scrappers will play the first of a two-game series against the CrossCutters in Williamsport, Pa.

Sunday, Williamsport defeated State College, 5-3, to keep their faint hopes alive.

The Scrappers’ magic number for clinching the division outright is three (Scrappers’ victories or CrossCutters’ losses). Williamsport has seven games remaining.
