Beck guides Mooney to 3-1 win

STRUTHERS — Senior Thomas Beck scored a goal and had two assists to lead the Cardinal Mooney High boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Carroll Bloom-Carroll.

Sophomores Matt Ramsey and Clay Hicks added goals for the Cardinals (2-1), while David Perry had two saves.

Justin Toller scored for Bloom-Carroll (1-1) and Drew Destocki had 13 saves.

JVs: Mooney 3-0.

Canfield 3, Fitch 0

P.J. Stickle scored twice for Canfield (2-0) and Jordan Rick added a goal.

Tony ElHayek had an assist, while Mike Thomas (one save) and Mike Whittman (four saves) tended goal.

Chris Platton saved 11 shots for Fitch (0-2). JVs: Canfield 2-0.

Boardman 1, Howland 1

HOWLAND — Ryan Tomko scored off an assist from Christian Silvestri to give Boardman (2-0-1) the lead with 25 minutes left.

Howland (1-0-1) tied it with 10:37 remaining on a goal by Cameron Francis.

Boardman goalie Garrett Pancake had seven saves, while Robert Daniels had four for Howland.

JVs: 2-2 tie.

Newton Falls 1, Salem 0

NEWTON FALLS — Alex Calland’s second half goal was all the scoring Newton Falls needed for its second straight victory.

Goalkeeper Myron Lard had eight saves for the Tigers, while Salem’s Rodney Hughes finished with seven saves.

JVs: Salem 4-2

Girls

Boardman 1, Green 0

GREEN — Senior Kelly Manning had the game’s lone goal with 14 minutes left in the game. Hailey Dickey, a sophomore, had the assist for Boardman (1-1).

Boardman senior goalie Cheyenne Khatib had 29 saves.

Green is 0-2.

Ursuline 1, Coventry 0

AKRON — Senior Allison Naples scored on a corner kick in the first half for Ursuline (2-0).

Coventry’s freshman goalie, Alexis Gross, had six saves, while Briana Curd, Ursuline’s sophomore stopper, had 23 saves.

In its opener, Ursuline beat Columbiana, 9-0. Next, the Irish face Canfield on Tuesday at Wick Recreation Area at 3:30 p.m.

Canfield 1, Fitch 1

AUSTINTOWN — Sophomore Emily Durina scored for Fitch — with an assist from junior Jen Shiley — and Canfield junior Rachel Morris had the tying goal with 15:52 remaining in the second half.

Ali Tolich had seven saves for Fitch (0-1-1), while Jackie Podolsky had seven stops for Canfield (0-0-1).

The Cardinals outshot the Falcons 14-7.

JVs: Canfield, 3-1.

South Range 6, YCS 3

AUSTINTOWN — Katelin Smith scored four goals for the Raiders with Kelli Johnston and Abby Ausnehmer scoring one each.

Hannah Weiry, Anna Cullar and Geri Dawson each had an assist.

Kristin Robinson had six saves for the Raiders.

Kristi Cooper scored two goals for YCS and Christy Hartman had one.

Lakeview 9, Warren Harding 0

CORTLAND — Lindsey Clark had five goals and Nicole Moldovan and Kaitlyn Tonkovich each added two for Lakeview (2-0).

Tonkovich had an assist, as did Marisa Capogreco, Ali Olbrych, Justine Defrancesco and Ali Gagne. Elaine Moldovan (one save) and Casey Boldt (two saves) were the keepers.

For Harding, Cierra Sparks had 16 saves and Kaitlyn Welke added 12. JVs: Lakeview 5-0.

Bristol 3, Garfield 0

BRISTOLVILLE — Katlyn Rasmussen had three goals and Brianna Sloan had two assists to lead Bristol (3-0). Heidi Olrich had 14 saves.

For Garfield (0-1), Chelsea Cook 10 saves.
