Barbecue reunion benefits cancer patients

HOWLAND — A benefit barbecue reunion, featuring what is billed as the “best of Ohio’s musical alumni,” will perform Sept. 6 at Up A Creek Tavern, 4793 E. Market St.

The event will bring together original members from The Shaddows, Glass Harp, Mom’s Apple Pie, Holes in the Road, Attica Wahoos, The Quick, MF Rattlesnake and many more. Also performing will be Damian Knapp, The Kellys, Madam Weez and others. A $10 donation covers the barbecue and live music from 2 to 10 p.m.

Tommy McCoy, singer, songwriter and blues guitarist and former Warren resident, is the organizer. McCoy lost his wife to breast cancer; proceeds will be used for patients receiving treatment for breast cancer at Ireland Cancer Center at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. McCoy graduated from Howland High School in 1972. He played with many local bands including The James Gang, Glass Harp, The Human Beinz and Left End. McCoy opened a record store and started a blues band in Florida.

Choreographer to present street jazz workshop

CANFIELD — Stage Left Dance and Theater Arts Academy, 23 Lisbon St., will host Glenn Douglas Packard, choreographer and VH1 “Brooke Knows Best” reality TV star, during a public intermediate/advanced street jazz workshop on Sept. 13. Sessions will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Packard, who has worked with Beyonc , Brooke Hogan and Usher, was nominated for an Emmy for his artistic direction and performance in Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary Special. Packard will teach choreography seen in music videos and live concerts. The workshops will include the same choreography. The fee is $25; space is limited. Volleyball tourney set at Conneaut Lake

CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. — Kincaid Promotions, in association with the Beach Club, will sponsor a beach volleyball tournament at Conneaut Lake Park.

The tournament is set for noon Sept. 6, rain or shine. All ages and abilities are welcome to enter this recreational, family-oriented tournament.

Coed teams of four will compete in two divisions (backyard and intermediate), with a three-game guarantee. Trophies will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams.

Local import company releases Hungarian CD

YOUNGSGTOWN — MagyarMarketing.com, a Youngstown-based Hungarian import company, has released its first CD, “Favorite Hungarian Melodies Volume I.”

Peace House fundraiser

YOUNGSTOWN — 15 60 75, The Numbers Band, will perform in a fundraiser for the Peace House on Sept. 19 at the Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St. The band, from Northeast Ohio, plays rock, jazz and blues noir.

A dinner buffet will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with the concert after. There will be cabaret seating, a silent auction and surprise guests. Reservations are due by Sept. 10 by calling Theresa Joseph at (330) 747-5404. The Peace House is at 204 Broadway, where Peace Action for a Sane World is based.
