BOSTON — during the annual meeting of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Freemasonry on Aug. 25 in Boston, Timothy N. Flack of Struthers and Robert M. Brienik of Youngstown were elected to receive the Scottish Rite 33 degree next August in Philadelphia.

The degree is awarded for active service in Masonry, especially the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32nd degree Masons, and Scottish Rite Masons who have been outstanding leaders in their community.

Flack is a past master of Sulgrave Lodge 696 in Boardman. He is a member and serves as secretary and recorder with Youngstown York Rite Bodies. A member of Zem Zem Shrine in Erie and Knight Masons of Ireland, he received the DeMolay Active Legion of Honor early this month. In the Scottish Rite, he is a past sovereign prince of Youngstown Council, Princes of Jerusalem. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Youngstown State University, and is the superintendent of Youngstown Masonic Temple.

Brienik is a member of Allen Lodge 276 in Columbiana and serves in the escort group of the Scottish Rite. He attended Fenn College in Cleveland and served with the U.S. Army from October 1959 through October 1958, and then four years in the Reserve. He was employed in middle management by General Motors from 1956 until retiring in 1992. He serves with a number of community and veterans groups, and has volunteered more than 20,500 hours at the Veterans Administration Hospital and local outpatient clinics. He and his wife, Deborah, have two sons, Robert and Christian.
