WB opens with 24-14 victory

PALMYRA — West Branch broke open a close game with 10 points in the final quarter and pulled out a 24-14 season-opening win over Southeast on Friday.

Mark Smith sparked the Warriors with 228 yards rushing on 32 carries and one touchdown, while Mike Smith added 88 yards passing, but threw three interceptions.

Bo Beegle kicked a 25-yard field goal to break a 14-14 deadlock and Taylor Pidgeon added a 40 yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.

Ursuline-St. Charles

COLUMBUS — Ursuline's opener at Columbus St. Charles was suspended by lightning, with the Irish leading 13-0 in the second quarter.

The game will be resumed today at 1 p.m.
