Scrappers win 6-1, magic number is three

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers moved one game closer to clinching the Pinckney Division championship of the New York-Penn League on Friday, defeating the Jamestown Jammers, 6-1, before just 257 fans at Russell Diethrick Park.

The Scrappers (44-23) had their magic number for clinching the division title to three, meaning a combination of three Scrappers wins and Williamsport losses.

Williamsport (36-30) had a late start in its game on Friday at State College and it was not completed for today’s edition.

Casey Frawley, Gregory Folgia, Jesus Brito and Ben Carlson all had two hits for the Scrappers, who allowed a first-inning run to Jamestown before scoring twice in the fourth and sixth innings and once each in the seventh and eighth.

Vidal Nuno (5-0) went 51‚Ñ3 innings for Mahoning Valley, allowing five hits and striking out five.

Jeremy Johnson went the next 22‚Ñ3 innings, allowing just one hit, and Nick Kirk pitched a scoreless ninth.

Austin Markel went 4-for-4 to lead Jamestown (28-39), while Dustin Dickerson added two.
