Hill, Briton help Rebels rout Oak Glen


COLUMBIANA — Carter Hill rushed for 156 yards and passed for 116 more while scoring two touchdowns and leading Crestview to a season opening romp over Oak Glen, 51-6, on Friday.

Adam Briton scored twice for the Rebels, who rushed for 380. Tristian Reynolds added five extra points and field goal and also caught three passes for 58 yards.

Brian Orr had a pass interception and a fumble recovery for the Rebels.

Minerva 44, United 27

HANOVERTON — The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead, before the Lions scored three consecutive touchdowns.

United quarterback Josh McLaughlin hit Zach Taylor with a 58-yard scoring toss and Zane Smith with a 16-yarder. In the third quarter, Taylor caught a 35-yard touchdown pass before Minerva responded with 20 unanswered points.

McLaughlin completed 19 of 36 attempts for 269 yards. Taylor’s four passes covered 106 yards.

Drew Prendergast led the Lions’ attack with 150 yards on 17 carries and four touchdowns.

Malvern 45, Lowellville 7

LOWELLVILLE — Malvern held Lowellville to 32 yards rushing and 85 total yards while rolling to an easy opening victory.

Maurice Johnson scored three touchdowns including a 70-yard kickoff return on the game’s opening play, while Tyler Crawford added two touchdowns, and Doug Wood passed for one score and ran for another.

Lowellville’s lone touchdown came on a 55 yard punt return by Evan Filip in the second quarter.

East Palestine 12, Southern 6

SALINEVILLE — East Palestine scored two early touchdowns and then held off Southern to open the season.

Southern finished with 202 total yards to 189 for the Bulldogs. Southern’s touchdown came on a 60-yard run by Bryan Brinker, who finished with 115 yards of 22 carries.

Jackson-Milton 33, Windham 12

WINDHAM — Wilber Wilson rushed for 201 yards on 14 carries, including touchdown runs of 70 and 30 yards, to lead Jackson-Milton.

J.D. Balch rushed 10 times for 139 yards for the Bluejays. Reggie Johnson completed all four of his passes for 40 yards, including a 7-yard TD.

Wellsville 24, Strasburg 17

WELLSVILLE — Bubba Dowling ran for 63 yards and passed for 79 while scoring once to lead Wellsville past Strasburg.

Jeremy Carter and Chad Elliot also scored for the winners, who came from behind in the final quarter to pull out the win.
