Additional meetings are planned on whether the township will contract with one trash hauler.

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees are reviewing the possibility of a townshipwide trash-pickup program.

Trustee chairman James Stoddard said trustees have given themselves assignments to gather information.

He said a couple of Trumbull County townships, such as Howland and Liberty, have instituted various formats for township trash pickup. Howland’s program is optional, and Liberty’s program is mandatory for residents.

There are several independent contractors providing trash- hauling services in the township. The result, Stoddard said, is that there “are always trash cans out,” because the companies run on various pickup schedules.

Several years ago, there was only one trash hauler, Wolford’s, who had the entire township for customers because there were no other suppliers.

There are now three primary companies providing services to residents, but trustees plan to investigate exactly how many there are and who they are.

Plans are to contact various trash haulers to find out what types of services are provided, look into what the trustees actually want for service, see if it is available and determine how many residential and business customers are involved.

Stoddard said if trustees do decide they want to seek bids for trash contracting for the township, public meetings will take place to get residents’ input and reaction.
