Fill your tank, help Joe Kaluza

STAFF REPORT

NILES — Wheeler’s Fireplace and Grill is donating 50 cents from every propane tank filled today, Saturday and Sunday to the Kaluza Project.

Wheeler’s, 1974 Warren Ave., is filling up 20-pound propane tanks for $7.99 to honor local labor and help the community in these tough times.

Owner Mark Wheeler has decided to donate 50 cents from every tank filled to the Kaluza Project, which will help Kaluza and his family in the effort to build a much-needed home equipped with everything Kaluza needs to move freely in his wheelchair.

Friends of Kaluza have estimated they need to raise about $300,000 to build the house.

He was paralyzed in 2008 when he was the manager of the KFC on South Avenue in Youngstown. On his way to make a night deposit, his car was struck by another car, and he was shot as he was robbed.

Wheeler told employees that even in the bad times the community is going through, he feels Kaluza’s family needs a little extra support.

In addition to the propane special, Ray Repasky, local representative from the Big Green Egg, will be cooking and giving out free samples cooked on the Egg.

The Big Green Egg is the world’s first lump-charcoal grill shaped like an egg that can cook, smoke and bake food.

Repasky is tentatively set to cook today, and other chefs will be cooking on the Egg and the Traeger Grill throughout the weekend.

Traeger’s unique pellet grill cooks and smokes food using various types of wood pellets.
