Educational robotics leagues being formed

NILES — The Art Outreach Gallery at the Eastwood Mall will host a 2009 rookie First Lego League robotics team in an effort to become a hub of educational robotics activity. Schools are being encouraged to participate, and can apply for a grant to cover the cost for their team’s rookie year.

The 2009 FLL challenge transportation-based theme, “Smart Move,” will be unveiled Thursday online. As part of the yearly competition, teams of up to 10 students will use the Lego Mindstorms NXT robotics system to design and build a robot to execute a series of mission.
