Western, Pa., teen guilty in attack on ex-girlfriend

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A suburban Pittsburgh teenager has been found guilty of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend with a hammer.

Judge Kim Clark of Allegheny County Common Pleas Court today found that 17-year-old Robertino DeAngelis intended to kill Sarah DeIuliis in the October 2007 attack in Mount Lebanon.

DeAngelis’ attorney argued DeAngelis hit DeIuliis with his fists, not a hammer, and didn’t intend to kill her.

Prosecutors argued DeAngelis wanted to kill, pointing out police also found a knife, tape and box cutter in his possession.

DeAngelis has maintained he doesn’t remember what happened. He was struck by a trolley after the attack in what police said was a suicide attempt.

DeAngelis could face court supervision until he’s 21 when he is sentenced in October.
