Ricks scores in Canfield’s win


CANFIELD — Jordan Ricks scored the game’s only goal as Canfield’s boys soccer team opened its season with a 1-0 victory over Lakeview.

Dylan Seybert got the assist on the goal, while the Cardinals took 15 shots on goal to just four for the Bulldogs (0-1-1). Mike Thomas had four saves for Canfield, while Taylor Bates had six saves for the Bulldogs.

West Branch 7, Southeast 0

BELOIT — West Branch outshot Southeast 24-0 and rolled to its first victory.

Logan Jarvis led the Raiders with two goals, while Cody Criss, Nick Caruso, Robert Brand, Jack Ramsey and Joey Alexander all scored once. Assisting on goals were Dakota Toot, Aaron Moser, Jake Davis, Skylar Gaver and Gary Bageley.

Newton Falls 11, United 0

NEWTON FALLS — Craig Maas scored three goals and an assist, while Joey Nickell added two goals and two assists and Newton Falls easily won its season opener.

Derick Rapczak and Mitch Kovach also had two goals each for the Tigers while Ryan Lemasters and Dale Lane added one each. Alex Calland also had a save. Myron Land and Zach Hogue combined for 21 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Shane Anderson had 12 for United.

Waterloo 3, South Range 2

NORTH LIMA — Jordan Baker and Tyler Ausnehmer each scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough to pull South Range past Waterloo.

Joel Skidmore added an assist for the Raiders, while Nathan Lotze had 18 saves in goal.

Carrollton 6, Crestview 1

COLUMBIANA — Dan Raper and Juan Gomez each scored two goals and led Carrollton past Crestview.

Alex DeSalvo scored the lone goal for the Rebels.

Girls

VERNON — Junior Erin McBride led Warren JFK to its second win of the season as she scored three goals an added an assist in the 8-1 win over Badger.

Senior Jerrica Cooper kicked in with two goals and an assist, while seniors Annie Giangardella and Gina Gelsomino and junior Kelli Guarnieri also had goals. Sophomore Sydney Lewis added two assists.

Senior Shawn McNeely had the lone goal for Badger (0-2). Goalkeeper Kelsey Case had four saves for the Eagles, while Kelsey Flowers and Megan Hunkus combined for 16 saves for Badger.
