Programs in Columbiana have to be cut

STAFF REPORT

LISBON — Times are tough when the programs to help those in need are in need.

Eileen Dray-Bardon, director of the county’s Department of Job & Family Services, on Wednesday told the Columbiana County Commissioners she has to make program cuts.

Her agency received $1.4 million less this year in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

The commissioners approved her request to lay off one full-time worker and a part-time worker in her department.

That brings the total of four county layoffs during the economic downturn. Two workers had been let go earlier this year in the county recorder’s office.

The commissioners also approved seven contracts at Dray-Bardon’s request at a total of $167,000.

One contract is with the county health department, which will receive $15,000 from to run an educational program on child passenger seats. The program will also offer 400 baby seats to eligible families.
