Police seek man reported to be suicidal

VERNON — The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department searched woods in Vernon Township Wednesday for a man who was reported to be suicidal.

The department’s dispatch reported that the 54-year-old man, whose name they would not release, went into woods near his house in the area of state Route 7. The dispatcher said the man’s wife found a note indicating he was suicidal, and his brother-in-law reported he appeared to be carrying a gun when he left his house and went into the woods around 5 p.m. K-9 units, including those from Fowler and Mecca townships, were searching until late in the evening.

The dispatcher said at 10:50 p.m. that the search was called off for the night.
