Meet the Artist at Outreach Gallery

NILES — A Meet the Artist event with Halley Snow of Youngstown is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall. She will exhibit her work through Sept. 6. The exhibit is free. Snow is a recent graduate of South Range High School and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. She is now a student at Youngstown State University.

Oakland Center plans open house Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN — The Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., will host its third annual open house and season announcement party from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Sponsored by the Oakland Board, the event is a chance for area residents to get to know the community theater.

There will be free refreshments in the Star Gallery, where a retrospective of posters from 23 years of past productions will be highlighted. Those attending also will be treated to a preview of show selections highlighting the upcoming season. The Oakland is celebrating its 10th season.

The cast of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” will reprise a selection from its production along with the cast of “Rent, Jr.,” which will mark the premiere of the musical in the Mahoning Valley. Also to be highlighted will be Sandy Vansuch’s original one-woman show “Love, Ludmilla;” “The Rocky Horror Show,” which returns to the Oakland stage with a totally new look; the Oakland’s annual holiday fundraiser “How The Drag Queen Stole Christmas;” “Dinner with Friends; An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein;” “Wit” and “Back of the Throat.”

POLAND — Another Oscar-winning film, “Now, Voyager,” will be screened Friday by Yellow Creek Theatre. Films are projected outdoors on the Route 224 bridge wall behind and adjacent to the Poland Library.

The evening begins with live jazz at 6:30 p.m.; show time is about 8:45 or dark. The film stars Bette Davis, Claude Rains and Paul Henreid. “Don’t ask for the moon,” Davis tells Henreid, “when we have the stars.” This is a free event and is open to the public.

BOARDMAN — Janet Macoska, primary photographer for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, will be at a book and print signing with Youngstown-based pop artist Chris Yambar from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the AWWWMazing Place in Southern Park Mall (Chick-Fil-A councourse), Boardman.
