Report: Ohio lagging in women’s advancement

COLUMBUS (AP) — A new report shows Ohio is lagging in indicators of women’s advancement such as political leadership and educational attainment.

A report released today by the Ohio State University’s Institute on Women, Gender and Public Policy says Ohio ranks 39th among the states for the percentage of women with four or more years of college.

The report also says the state ranks 33rd for the percentage of state legislative seats held by women.

Women also continue to lag far behind men in Ohio in earnings power. Men earned an average of $44,443 in full-time jobs in the last year, while women working full-time earned $32,853.

Julie Graber, senior associate for strategic planning at the institute, says the numbers are evidence that barriers for women still exist.
