Man escapes blaze on W. Philadelphia

YOUNGSTOWN — A fire at a condemned house at 46 W. Philadelphia Ave. destroyed some belongings that were being stored there, but there were no apparent injuries Wednesday.

The fire started around 9:30 p.m., according to a man and woman who said they had been renting the house until about three months ago.

The man, who said he’d gone over to the house to check on belongings, was asleep upstairs when the fire broke out downstairs. He said he escaped out the back. He said he didn’t hear or see anything before the fire started.

Fire crews were still working at the scene late Wednesday.
