South Range boys win soccer opener


COLUMBIANA — Jordan Baker scored three goals and South Range’s boys soccer team won its season opener over Heartland Christian, 5-1, on Monday.

Tyler Ausnehmer and Andrew O’Leary also scored for the Raiders, while Joe Bieke, Justin Niemi and Nathan Lotze all added assists. Lotze and Isaac Schuster combined for 13 saves.

Highland 1, West Branch 0

BELOIT — West Branch was outshot 10-3 and suffered a season opening loss to Medina Highland. Brandon Poling scored the game’s only goal for Medina. Matt Latham had eight saves for West Branch.

Boardman 3, Niles 2

NILES — Nico DiIanni scored twice and Ryan Tomko once to lead the Spartans. Justin Miller and Shane McMillan scored for Niles.

Girls

POLAND — Vivian Clayton scored two goals while Tatum Marucci and Samantha Sufich each added one to lead Poland to a 4-0, season opening victory over Boardman.

Taylor Marucci added two assists while Erin Gabriel and Carolyn Balzano each had one assist. Poland outshot the Spartans 22-2. Taylor Erdel had both saves for the Bulldogs, while Cheyenne Khatle had 13 saves for the Spartans.

Hubbard 9, Liberty 1

HUBBARD — Emily Skebo’s three goals sparked Hubbard to an easy opening victory over Liberty.

Kristen Tobey added two goals, while Allison Skebo, Ellen Begeot, Mia Daly and Alexis Blackwell all had one goal for the Eagles.

Lakeview 8, Badger 0

CORTLAND — Lindsey Clark and Nicole Moldovan each scored two goals as Lakeview opened its season with a rout over Badger.

Ali Olbrych, Justine Defrancesco, Marisa Defrancesco and Kaitlyn Tonkovich also scored for the Bulldogs. Clark had an assist also, while Elaine Moldovan and Casey Boldt each had a save in goal. Badger’s Sara Nagal had 14 saves

Warren JFK 7, Py Valley 0

ANDOVER — Warren JFK opened it season with an easy rout over Py Valley. Junior Erin McBride scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Eagles. Kelli Guarnieri, Adrian Ashdown, Maddie Laukhart and Sammie Jo Marzullo all scored goals for the winners. Guarnieri, Laukart, Jerrica Cooper and Lexi Varga all had assists. Goalkeeper Helena Democopoulos had six saves. Py Valley’s Lindsey Seman had 11 saves.

Carrollton 5, Crestview 2

COLUMBIANA — Emily Corll scored two goals, but Crestview still dropped a contest to Carrollton.

Evica Cox and Amanda Kissinger each had an assist for the Rebels. Carrollton was led by Renee Davis with two goals.

Yo. Christian 2, Conneaut 1

CONNEAUT — Kristi Cooper scored a goal and added an assist as Youngstown Christian won its season opener.

Rashida Strosier added the other goal for the Eagles, while goalie Devanie Womack recorded nine saves. The winners outshot Conneaut 16-11.
