Scrappers pummel Doubledays

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored 10 times with two outs in Monday’s 12-1 pounding of the Auburn Doubledays in New York-Penn League action.

With two outs in the third inning, the first-place Scrappers (41-22) pushed threes runs across the plate. The first of Casey Frawley’s two doubles and Jason Kipnis’ triple were the big hits.

An inning later, the Scrappers had two outs and nobody on base before scoring seven times.

Doubledays reliever Austin Armstrong relieved Dave Sever and gave up five straight singles before being lifted.

Winning pitcher Brett Brach (4-2) allowed one hit in the six innings he worked. Relievers Nick Kirk and Jose Urena each allowed one hit as they combined for a three-hitter.
