Retired Supreme Court Justice O’Connor to sit on Cincy appeals panel
CINCINNATI (AP) — Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor plans to sit as a visiting judge on appeals court panels here.
An official of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said today that O’Connor will join panels in Cincinnati to hear cases Oct. 13 and 14.
O’Connor became the first female justice in 1981, and retired from the high court in 2006. At 79, she remains active in education, law and civic causes. She has sat on appeals panels in other circuits around the country.
A federal circuit court of appeals is the next-highest court to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Cincinnati-based 6th circuit hears appeals of cases in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee.
