OSHP survey: Speeding causes most teen crashes in Ohio

COLUMBUS (AP) — A new report says speeding causes the most crashes with a juvenile driver at fault in Ohio.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said today that from 2006 through 2008, motorists under 18 were to blame for nearly 62,000 accidents on Ohio roads, and 58 percent resulted from speeding.

The patrol says crashes with teen drivers at fault led to about 28,000 injuries and 212 deaths.

Col. Richard H. Collins, the patrol’s superintendent, says young drivers need to be reminded of the consequences of not obeying traffic laws.

During the three-year period, troopers issued traffic tickets to 35,000 juveniles. Clermont County outside Cincinnati had the largest number of those citations, followed by northeast Ohio’s Stark County, which includes Canton and Alliance.
