Zanesville cop and his police dog shot


ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Police say they have captured a suspect wanted in the shooting of a police officer and his canine partner about 70 miles away.

Zanesville police say Officer Mike Schiele was serving a warrant when he was shot Saturday night. He was taken to a hospital in Columbus, where he was treated for a wound to an upper leg area and then released.

Police in Canton say they apprehended the suspect about 1 p.m. today.

The dog, Bosco, was shot multiple times and was to undergo surgery at a veterinary hospital in Columbus. Police officials say the animal is expected to survive.
