Y-town All-Stars subdue Jupiter in BR World Series


APPLETON, Wisc. — Daniel Ferguson had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs to help the Youngstown All-Stars defeat Jupiter, Fla., 4-2 in a pool play game Sunday at the Babe Ruth 14-year-old World Series.

Christopher Maze went the distance, tossing a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and three walks to lead Youngstown (1-1), which fell to Eau Claire, Wisc., in a first-round game on Saturday.

Shawn Coyne added three hits and scored a run and Robert Vargo had two hits, a run and a RBI for Youngstown.

Vic Kuchmaner, Jacob Froats and Drew Delsignore also had hits. Froats and Brandon Ritchie scored runs.

Youngstown will play North Syracuse, N.Y., at 1:30 p.m. today and Hamilton, Ariz., at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The single-elimination bracket games begin Thursday. Teams advance to the bracket based on their record, with five teams each competing in the American and National divisions.

Youngstown plays in the American Division.

Semifinal games are Friday with the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
