Western, Pa., restaurant worker fights off deposit heist

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — State police are looking for a man who tried to rob a western Pennsylvania restaurant employee who, instead, fought off the robber by hitting him in the head.

Police say the suspect approached the worker near a PNC Bank drop box not far from the Eat ’n Park restaurant where the victim worked about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant is on state Route 30 in Hempfield Township, about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Police say the robber pepper sprayed the restaurant worker in the face, but the worker fought back instead of surrendering the bank bags he was holding.

The suspect ran away and got into a car driven by someone else that sped away.
