AUBURN, N.Y. — Tim Palincsar hit his second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning, to help the Mahoning Valley Scrappers defeat Auburn 7-3 in a New York-Penn League game on Sunday.
Casey Frawley went 4-for-5 with a run scored for the Scrappers (39-22), who hold a seven-game lead over Williamsport in the Pinckney Division.
They are a half-game back of Brooklyn (40-22) in the race for the best record in the league with 14 games left.
Palincsar had two hits, Jason Kipnis added two hits and two runs and Juan Aponte had two hits and scored a run.
Antwonie Hubbard (2-1) pitched 21‚Ñ3 scoreless innings to get the win.
Corey Burns picked up his 10th save by getting the last out.
