The Kokoon Arts Club was founded in 1911 by a small group of commercial artists. Meeting first at night in a vacant tailor’s shop, the club’s founding members explored the “New Art” — what we now call Modernism. The club became a fixture of Cleveland’s arts scene throughout the 1910s and 1920s.
To fund their activities, the club had an annual masked ball that drew thousands of revelers who created fantastic costumes. The club helped create a surge in art and design that made Northeast Ohio a national center of industry and ideas.
A lunch will be served after the presentation.
