HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY | Daisy Crespi
Born: Assunta Louisa Bucci in the family home on Aug. 17, 1909, in Lawrence County, Mahoning Township, Pa. One of seven children.
Address: Moved at the age of 98 to Woodlands at Hampton Woods, 1525 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland, when she broke her hip while feeding the cats.
Married: Delford Crespi on Thanksgiving Day in 1938 in the Villa Church. They lived on a farm, where she learned to make butter and cheese, grow a garden, and drive a tractor.
Children: Two, Bernard Joseph Crespi and Sarah Anne Gunn.
Grandchildren: Six, Larry Meehan III, Mary Louisa L’Hommedieu, Rebecca Meehan, Bridget Coughlin, Frances Kangas and Charles Crespi.
Great-grandchildren; 10, Sarah L’Hommedieu, Brendan Coughlin, Larry Meehan, Olivia Adkins, Connor Coughlin, Aidan L’Hommedieu, Dillon Coughlin, Michael Meehan, Mitchell Adkins, and Clara Kangas.
Schooling: Attended Tent Hall, a two-room school, then Lowellville High School and Youngstown Business College.
Employment: Was a stenographer and typist at businesses and law offices and several years as a teacher’s aide.
Affiliations: A lifelong member of St. James the Apostle Church, which grew out of St. Joseph Church at Villa Maria.
Activities: Was the first woman in Lowellville to drive a car, a Whippet, and gave up driving at age 85 when she realized her reactions were not good. When afflicted with macular degeneration, between the age of 90 and 95 she dictated a memoir of her life and became happily associated with Lawrence County Blind Association.
Celebration: A birthday party honored her at 2 p.m. Aug. 17.
