Scrappers fall, 5-4, snap win streak at 4

WAPPINGER FALLS, N.Y. — The Hudson Valley Renegades scored three runs in the first inning and held on to defeat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 5-4, in a New York-Penn League baseball game on Friday night.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Scrappers (38-22).

Gregory Folgia had two hits and scored a run for the Scrappers, who trailed 4-0 after two innings and 5-1 after three.

Tim Palinscar hit a pair of doubles for Mahoning Valley. His first one drove in Rafael Vera with the Scrappers’ first run in the third inning.

In the fourth, Vera’s single scored Folgia, who had singled with one out, cutting the Scrappers’ deficit to 5-2.

Mahoning Valley scored two more runs in the seventh inning. Palinscar and Jordan Henry led off with doubles to make it 5-3, then Henry came around to score on a wild pitch.
