Kroger recalls bread
CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. grocery chain is recalling a store-brand bread because it could contain milk ingredients not listed on the label. The Cincinnati-based company says customers who bought Super Kids Enriched White Sandwich Bread sold in 13 states should return it for a refund or replacement.
The company says the bread could be a threat to people with milk allergies. Kroger says there is no safety issue for other consumers. States affected are Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

Tax holiday doesn’t help
MONTPELIER, Vt. — As Vermont gears up for a sales-tax holiday, some national groups aren’t sharing in the enthusiasm.
Stores are calling in extra staff and planning to stay open later for today’s break from sales taxes. But critics have concluded such holidays don’t do much to boost the economy and hurt state revenues. Vermont’s sales-tax holidays are expected to set state revenues back about $1.1 million each of the two days. A second holiday is set for March 6. Both the liberal-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and the conservative-leaning Tax Foundation say sales-tax holidays do more to shift the timing of consumer purchases, rather than increasing them.
