Pickled Brothers Sideshow in First Night fundraiser

YOUNGSTOWN — The Pickled Brothers Sideshow will come to the Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., downtown, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds from the group’s performance will benefit First Night Youngstown, which puts on an arts and entertainment celebration every New Year’s Eve downtown. First Night Youngstown will mark its 10th anniversary this year.

Tickets for the Pickled Brothers show are $15 at the door. They can also be purchased in advance by calling (330) 744-9966 or (330) 788-5114. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and a Chinese auction.

The Kentucky-based Pickled Brothers Sideshow has performed previously at First Night Youngstown.

The circus-style show features sword-swallowing, fire-eating juggling and other unusual feats. Eric Thompson will be the opening act.

Danklef Hill Gallery features Tipton’s art

SALEM — The work of local artist Loretta Tipton is on display at Danklef Hill Gallery through mid-September. The exhibit includes jewel-toned works on canvas as well as felted fiber and fused-glass pieces.

An artist reception will be at the gallery, 515 E. State St., downtown, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Several nearby shops will be open late for Salem’s Third Friday, and a few have planned special events. Friends Roastery will have live music, and Game On is hosting an electronics swap meet in the store’s parking lot off Pershing Street.

Also on display at the gallery are works by the owners, Kristina Danklef and Kathleen Hill, as well as Marcie Applegate, Elizabeth Babb, Ma Bru Ev, Bob Frost, Linda Grubb, Daniel Horne, Scott Pergande and Laura Ramsey.

Artist’s reception set at gallery in mall

NILES — An artist’s reception for Nikki Mehle will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall. Mehle is a senior at Canfield High School. Her work is on display at Art Outreach.

The gallery is in the concourse between Macy’s and J.C. Penney’s.

Gallery hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday; 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
