Lowellville BOE awaits word on Poland land offer

STAFF REPORT

LOWELLVILLE — The Board of education is waiting to hear about its offer to buy a parcel of land in Poland Township.

The board sent a letter in June to the Western Reserve Joint Fire District inquiring about buying the bulk of 18 acres the fire district owns at the intersection of Hubbard and New Castle roads.

The land would be for a new school should one be needed in the future, the letter says.

The school board is offering $6,000 an acre.

School board member John Olson said after the board’s meeting Wednesday that the fire district indicated it only needs about an acre of the property for an expansion of its station there. The school board would like to buy the rest of the land.

“We don’t want to get to the point where we have no room to expand,” Olson said.

The board is also considering meeting with another property owner in the area, but has not made any offers, board members said.
