GIRARD POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Aug. 16
Endangerment: Police received a report that a Girard man had struck and grabbed the arm of a 7-year-old girl. The child had bruises on her arm and buttocks, officers were told.
Theft: The landlord of a Stambaugh Street residence discovered all of the major appliances had been removed from the home.
Menacing: A South State Street man told police another man who performed yard work for him threatened to harm the accuser if he didn’t immediately give the man $15 for the work.
Criminal mischief: Someone tossed 12 eggs at a car in the 200 block of East Kline Street.
Possible theft: A Girard woman reported her debit card lost or stolen when she shopped in Warren.
Auto theft: A Washington Avenue woman reported the theft of her 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle/drugs: A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was pending against a man after police investigated a report of a Ford F-150 truck having been used by the owner’s former boyfriend without permission. A suspected marijuana pipe was in the glove compartment, a report said.
Recovered property: A man walking his dog found hidden in weeds near the Mahoning River a canoe that was later determined to have been stolen. The owner retrieved it, a report showed.
Criminal damaging: A man in the 400 block of Market Street saw that all of his truck’s tires had been slashed.
Assault: An Indiana Avenue man alleged his intoxicated stepbrother grabbed and squeezed his throat.
Aug. 17
Burglary: To a residence in the 500 block of Park Avenue, from which a purse and wallet were missing.
Attempted breaking and entering: A North Highland Avenue man said he chased two people who tried to enter his truck.
Theft: A woman’s cell phone was stolen from a building in the 400 block of North Market Street.
Aug. 18
Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 900 block of Shannon Road, then stole a set of walkie-talkies from a vehicle.
HUBBARD
Aug. 14
Burglary: A man went to Hubbard Coal & Supply Inc., 828 N. Main St., and noticed a desk drawer had been pulled out and a cash register was open.
Theft: A woman told authorities she signed a lease and made the first payment to move into a residence in the 300 block of West Liberty Street, but that someone showed her a deed claiming ownership, and that she still owed the rent.
Drugs: Officers responded to a vehicular accident near North Main Street and arrested a man wanted by the Girard Municipal Court on a felony charge of possession of heroin.
Theft: A stereo and MP3 player were removed from a vehicle in the 400 block of North Main Street.
Theft: Someone took a wallet from a car in the 200 block of Oakdale Avenue.
Aug. 15
Criminal damaging: A car in the 400 block of South Main Street sustained damage.
Aug. 16
Auto theft: A Clingan Street woman’s 1996 Plymouth vehicle was stolen.
Aug. 17
Assault: Reported by a Hubbard Township resident.
Criminal damaging: Damage was reported at a park off Jones Street.
LIBERTY
Aug. 14
Assault: A Green Acres Drive man said a friend, of Poland, struck him in the left ear during an argument.
Theft: A woman in her 30s stole $400 worth of groceries from Aldi Foods, 3497 Belmont Ave.
Threats: A Pleasant Valley Road woman told officers a man, 30, threatened her with harm if she failed to obtain credit-card information for him.
Criminal damaging: Scratches and gouges were found on a car on Green Acres Drive, resulting in a $2,000 damage estimate.
Drug paraphernalia: A city man, 54, was stopped by police near Gypsy Lane and charged when, they said, a suspected crack pipe was discovered.
Arrest: A 53-year-old Youngstown man was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Belmont Avenue when, police said, he had six counts of driving under suspension against him. The man also was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Drug paraphernalia: Youngstown police picked up a Campbell man, 34, wanted by township authorities on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive resulted in a 35-year-old city man’s being taken into custody on a warrant from Mahoning County. He also was charged with failure to pay court- ordered child support.
Recovered property: A 12-speed mountain bike was found off Shady Road, though the bicycle had not been stolen.
Theft: A man reported his 16-year-old son’s MP3 player was stolen from a vehicle at a Belmont Avenue eatery.
Breaking and entering: Someone entered Joe’s Restaurant, 2921 Belmont Ave., took an undisclosed amount of money from an upstairs cabinet and destroyed a skylight.
Aug. 15
Misuse of a credit card: A Marla Lane woman discovered her credit/debit card had been used without consent to buy a $146 plane ticket.
Aug. 16
Theft: Two men left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., without paying a $13 food bill.
Aug. 17
Assault: A Youngstown woman told police a man in his 30s slapped and spit on her after she refused to leave her Eastlawn Drive residence with the man and another person.
Harassment: A Monticello Drive man reported getting 40 hang-up and harassing cell-phone calls, some of which made sexual references to the accuser and his wife.
