ACTION to take action at Democratic fundraiser
YOUNGSTOWN — A local faith-based community organization will take its demand for the creation of a comprehensive Mahoning Valley community college with a central campus straight to elected state officials tonight.
ACTION plans to present its arguments to office holders, including Gov. Ted Strickland and Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, attending the Mahoning County Democratic Party’s fundraiser at Fellows Riverside Garden at 6:30 p.m.,
ACTION isn’t content with the formation of Eastern Gateway Community College as orchestrated by the state. The new college is making use of existing educational facilities and resources rather than creating its own central campus. ACTION is insisting on at least a written commitment that a fully functional community college with a central campus be developed within five years.
ACTION will give the officials a position paper referring to Eastern Gateway Community College as an “illusion” and “an institution without walls and with limited value for us to achieve our real needs.”
