Underground railroad home tours in Salem
SALEM — The Quakertown Trolley will provide tours of Salem’s Underground Railroad homes Saturday.
Tours will leave from Salem Historical Society at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m., and each will last approximately one hour.
Jeanne Martinelli, historical society docent, will take passengers back to the 19th century by providing stories of the plight of slaves, the working of the railroad, and the abolitionist movement.
Pictures of the interiors of the now private homes will be shown on a screen inside the trolley.
Seating on the trolley is limited. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling Mary Ellen Mayo, (330) 337-3035, or the museum at (330) 337-8514.
