Fast car flips and kills teen driver

SOUTHINGTON — An 18-year-old Leavittsburg man who would have been a senior this year at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center in Champion died, and his passenger was injured when their car rolled over about nine times on state Route 305 just west of U.S. Route 422 Tuesday night.

Travis M. Garcia was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center, while Bow Yeater, 17, of Leavittsburg, who will be a senior at LaBrae High School this year, was treated at St. Joseph Health Center.

Yeater, who walked away from the 11 p.m. accident, told police Garcia was driving about 100 miles per hour over a small hill when the car went airborne, then veered left upon landing and hit an embankment and rolled over, ejecting Garcia.

Neither Garcia or Yeater were wearing seat belts, but Yeater was not ejected, police said.

The accident occurred about five miles west of a single-car accident Aug. 3 that killed a 17-year-old Southington girl.
