Erie man, 59, critical after falling from cliff

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — An Erie man remains in critical condition after falling about 30 feet from a cliff into Lake Erie while trying to find a spot to watch fireworks that capped the city’s CelebrateErie festival.

Authorities say 59-year-old Richard Tomilin and his girlfriend were walking along the cliff when he got too close to the edge and fell about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

Tomilin’s girlfriend, 58-year-old Jan Jeffrey, said that he has a fractured skull, broken arm and broken ribs.

Tomilin remains at Hamot Medical Center in Erie on this morning.
