Murderer Getsy sleeps on way to death house

LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The triggerman in a murder-for-hire scheme that killed a 66-year-old woman and wounded her son has arrived at the state death house in southern Ohio.

Prisons spokeswoman Julie Walburn says condemned killer Jason Getsy slept part of the way Monday from death row in Youngstown to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

The 33-year-old Getsy was sentenced to death for shooting Ann Serafino in her home near Youngstown, during a 1995 crime that targeted her son.

Charles Serafino survived the attack and plans to witness Tuesday’s execution.

Getsy asked for paper to write a letter at Lucasville and has begun sorting through his belongings.

He has a last-minute appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court challenging Ohio lethal injections.
