Man dies in Dayton after being struck by train

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a man has died after being struck by a train while attempting to cross tracks on foot.

The coroner’s office in Dayton says the unidentified man was hit Sunday night and died today.

Conductors on the train say they saw the man near the tracks as the train approached a crossing. They say he began running along the tracks and then turned to cross them. Operators were not able to stop the train in time.

Dayton Police Lt. Brian Johns says the man had a bottle in his hand and it appeared he had been drinking.
