ID released on man killed in ATV accident in Howland

HOWLAND — Police have released the identity of the man killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle all-terrain-vehicle accident.

Mark S. McAllister Jr., 26, of Compass West Drive, Austintown, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Health Center, where he was taken after a collision.

Howland police said McAllister and another man, Don A. Ellashek, 29, of Kuszmaul Drive, Champion, were attempting to ride an ATV over the same hill from opposite sides and collided as they got to the top of the hill.

Police said it would be impossible to see a rider coming over the hill from opposite sides.

McAllister had started up the hill and was nearly at the top when Ellashek’s ATV topped the hill and collided with McAllister’s.

Ellashek, who was not injured, was listed as the owner of both ATVs.

The police report said the accident occurred at 1:04 p.m. on private property owned by Severstal Steel off Warren Avenue, which is also known as Pine Avenue Southeast, near DeForest Road.

A Vienna man also was at the scene and listed as a witness.
