Job Expo at Covelli Centre
YOUNGSTOWN — Covelli Centre in the city’s downtown area is the site of an interstate Job Expo on Sept. 9, from noon to 5 p.m., that will feature CareerLink of Lawrence and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania and Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties’ One-Stop Workforce systems.
In addition to jobs at all skill levels, including skilled, technical, professional and general labor, job seekers will be able to do Internet Job Searching and can attend a variety of workshops aimed at making them more successful in their job search, officials said.
Participating training organizations will range from four-year colleges to technical schools and specialized training agencies. In addition, a financial-aid booth will provide information on various programs that offer funding for education and training, including American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) or Stimulus Training funds.

Hard Hatted Women receives grant renewal
CLEVELAND — Hard Hatted Women, a Cleveland-based nonprofit organization that trains and helps women and girls explore, pursue and excel in careers in high-wage, high-skill industries, was awarded a grant renewal from the Women in Apprenticeships and Nontraditional Occupations program through the U.S. Department of Labor.
Also, Hard Hatted Women was selected as a host for seven AmeriCorps VISTA members who commit to a year of national service to support anti-poverty programs.
The one-year grant is for more than $160,000 and allows the organization to continue the statewide Women in Ohio Roadways Construction project. The project promotes an outreach initiative that leverages training and community resources to ensure local participation in the building of transportation projects in Ohio. Strong partnerships with the Ohio Department of Transportation, building-trade unions and contractors support the project’s successful achievement of helping more than 200 women enter and succeed in the industry, said Terri Burgess Sandu, executive director.
The AmeriCorps VISTA members will be assigned to several various Hard Hatted Women programs.
