Anniversary is celebrated by the Meckeses

GIRARD — Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meckes of Girard celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Aug. 7 at the Columbiana home of a daughter, Robin Sears, and Tom Eastek, and during a family picnic cookout at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Frank Davis in Girard. Completing their family are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The couple, who are known as “Eddie” and “Dolly,” also attended a Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in McDonald, where they are members and where Mrs. Meckes served two years on the parish council.

The former Ann Marie Grimaldi and Mr. Meckes were united in marriage Aug. 7, 1954, at St. Rose Church.

Mrs. Meckes worked at Packard Electric for 241‚Ñ2 years prior to retiring in 1988. Afterward she was a secretary at the Chamber of Commerce for five years.

Mr. Meckes served two years with the U.S. Army Engineers. He worked at Poulakos Bakery for 34 years, until it closed, and retired after 17 years as a maintenance supervisor at the YWCA in Youngstown.
