2 roads to be closed for culvert replacements
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Engineer’s Office has announced two road closings this month for culvert replacements.
Coit Road in Coitsville Township will be closed from state Route 616 to New Castle Road from Tuesday through Friday.
Traffic will be detoured along state routes 616 and 289 and New Castle Road.
Mahoning Avenue will be closed between the Ohio Turnpike interchange and state Route 45 from Aug. 24-31 in Jackson Township.
Traffic will be detoured over state Route 45, and New and Lipkey roads.
Focus of presentation is on understanding children in poverty
WARREN — The public is invited to hear a presentation by Dr. Cathy Hamilton on understanding children in poverty from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Warren G. Harding High School Cafetorium, 860 Elm Road N.E.
Dr. Hamilton conducted 31‚Ñ2-hour workshops throughout the summer with all school district staff members on the topic.
Her work is focused on poverty research and the effect of poverty on student achievement.
Agency will take orders for annual fall fish sale
CORTLAND — The Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District will take orders for its annual fall fish sale through Sept. 18.
Available are white amurs, 9 to 13 inches long. They are used for pond vegetation control, though they are not considered an adequate control for filamentous algae (pond scum) by the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The fish cost $15 each.
Fish pickup will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Mosquito Lake parking area off of West Main Street.

5K run will close several roads in Mill Creek Park
YOUNGSTOWN — Several roadways within Mill Creek Park will be closed between 7 a.m. and noon next Sunday, because of a charity fundraiser.
Barricades will be set up along several park drives in the Bears Den for the Hearts For A Safe Harbor 5-K race at:
U Bears Den Drive at McCollum Road;
U Cross Drive at Old Furnace Road;
U West Drive at Old Furnace Road;
U the westbound lane of Slippery Rock Bridge;
U West Drive at West Glacier Drive;
U and Fresh Air Camp Hill Drive at West Drive.
Access to both East and West Glacier Drives and Robinson Hill Drive will be maintained, as will access to the Lily Pond and Birch Hill Cabin via McCollum Road.
