One in seven Americans relies on the Great Lakes for water, and the lakes are a cornerstone of the region’s economy and wildlife. A new film, “Mysteries of the Great Lakes,” celebrates the planet’s greatest freshwater ecosystem and makes a plea for continued conservation efforts. The film premieries Friday at Carnegie Science Center’s Rangos Omnimax Theater in Pittsburgh. A scene from the film is shown above. During the past 100 years, the Great Lakes have experienced some of the worst environmental atrocities in North America. But the region now is home to one of the most extensive cleanup projects in history. “Mysteries of the Great Lakes” includes breathtaking photography and a soundtrack that includes Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot.
