‘THE HISTORY BOYS’

Canfield native has key role in play that will be Webcast

PITTSBURGH — Canfield native Jarid Faubel is playing the role of Rudge in the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre production of “The History Boys.” The play, written by Alan Bennett, explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history and the methods and purpose of education.

The Saturday performance will be broadcast over the Internet using LIPLO technology developed by PICT Operations Director Stephanie Riso and computer specialist Andrew Glick. LIPLO (Live and In Person, Live and Online) allows fans to watch the live performance as it is happening in Pittsburgh. The show begins at 8 p.m. and can be accessed online at www.liplo.com.

Faubel is the son of Niki Faubel. A 2004 graduate of Canfield High School, he was the state champion in international extemporaneous speaking.

He recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s school of drama, and now lives in New York. Earlier this year, he returned to Pittsburgh for Quantum Theatre’s production of “Yerma.” His television and film credits include “Kings” (NBC) and “Mysteries of Pittsburgh.”

“History Boys” follows the senior year of eight history students in the north of England as they try to crack admission to Oxford and Cambridge. Unruly, bright, talented and amusing, these boys are in natural pursuit of sex, sport and a place at a good university. They are guided in these pursuits by their overeager headmaster; a maverick, eccentric English teacher; and a new instructor whose mandate is to get the boys to think outside the box and get noticed.

The play is being performed through Aug. 22 at Stephen Foster Memorial Theater, 4301 Forbes Ave. Call (412) 394-3353.
